Covering over 17,000 acres, Dworshak Dam serves northern Idaho, nearest to Orofino. Named after Senator Henry C. Dworshak, who championed the Dam’s building project in Congress, the dam generates an annual 1.693 billion kilowatt hours of power each year.
Dworshak Dam, the tallest straight-axis concrete dam in the Western Hemisphere, is owned by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and impounds the Clearwater River. Drawing between 110,000 and 140,000 tourists each year, the Dam facilitates boating, water-skiing, fishing, hiking, and hunting in the area.
