Clearwater National Forest

Clearwater National Forest, encompasses 1.8 million acres of land, in northern Idaho near Orofino. This incredible National Forest is not only a wonderful forested area, but also features the Clearwater and Lochsa Rivers that flow through the land. From 1805 to 1806, famed explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark journeyed through this area, during their expedition to the Pacific Coast.

Lewis and Clark traversed along the Lolo Trail, a centuries-old path used by indigenous peoples, that remains sacred to the Nez Perce Indians today. Enjoy spending time in the forest by fishing, hiking, hunting, ATV'ing or soaking in the Jerry Johnson Hot Springs. Stop by the Lolo Pass Visitor Center to learn more about the area and its history.
