Visiting Idaho

It’s the season for an Idaho getaway. Boise, Idaho’s state capital, is a hub for business and culture for the Gem State. With spring and summer's warm weather, Kathryn Albertson Park, Julia Davis Park and the Boise Greenbelt fill with walkers, joggers and cyclists enjoying Idaho’s clean air and beautiful scenery. The Idaho Botanical Garden in northeast Boise, hosts Great Garden Escapes Concerts series on summer evenings through summer, and Alive After Five performances fill Grove Plaza Wednesday evenings from June through September. Sports fans fill the stands at Memorial Stadium for Boise Hawks Baseball - the 2012 season run June through Labor Day in September. Your pick of fun in Boise.

Theater fans don’t miss open-air performances of Shakespeare, at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival. Take in evening performances at the Idaho Shakespeare Festival Amphitheater and Reserve. The Shakespeare Amphitheater is located along the Boise River in southeast Boise, north of Interstate 84. Romeo and Juliet kick-off 2012 summer performances June 1st, with The Winter’s Tale and Noises Off also on the season's calendar.

Ketchum, next door to Sun Valley, hosts a full calendar of summer events and festivities. One of Idaho’s premier mountain biking areas, Ketchum hosts the 2012 Ride Sun Valley Bike Festival, June 29th through July 8th. Featuring the USA Cycling National Championships July 5th through 8th, Ketchum is the place for mountain bikers. Join for fun or a challenge, starting on June 30th with the cross-country and marathon Galena Grinder. Events continue with a Downhill, the 3rd Annual Idaho Pump Track State Championship and the popular Fat Tire Criterium.

Take the scenic back door route into Yellowstone National Park via Idaho Falls. Enjoy the spectacular scenery either on the Swan Valley Highway, or through Driggs and Idaho’s Teton Valley. Visit Idaho Falls by May 12th, and be sure to stop by the Museum of Idaho for the exhibition Teeth, Tails, & Trouble: A T Rex Named Sue and How to Raise a Dinosaur. Summer exhibits continue with King Tut: Treasures of the Tomb follows, opening June 15th.

Summer is the best in the lakes of northern Idaho and it doesn't get better than Coeur d’Alene, on the shores of its namesake lake. Runners and athletes enjoy challenges throughout the summer beginning with the Cd’A Marathon Memorial Day weekend. The Coeur d’Alene Marathon and Half Marathon features out and back courses through the beautiful scenery of northern Idaho. The Cd’A marathon is a warm up, summer challenges continue with Ironman Coeur d’Alene 2012, June 24th. Events begin with the swim course in Lake Coeur d’Alene. August challenges athletes with the 29th Annual Coeur d’Alene Triathlon & Duathlon with finish line festivities in Coeur d’Alene City Park.
